I’ve Heard Google Adwords Doesn’t Work …
Something I hear a lot from prospective small business clients is this ‘I’ve heard that Google Adwords doesn’t work…” It always surprises me, because I have seen loads of people make loads of money from Adwords. It think this is most commonly heard from trades people. Plumbers, Pest Controllers, Electricians and those types.
I understand though. It is easy to make Google Adwords not work. It would be like me trying to wire up my house and then saying that electricity doesn’t work … if I am still alive long enough afterwards that is. Adwords might be so life and death as electricity, but hey, you don’t want to waste money either.
If Google Adwords hasn’t worked for people you know, that is most likely because it has not been managed professionally.
Here is a list of ways that people set up a poor Adwords account.
- They use Adwords Express
- Keyword match types are set to broad
- They use “suggested” keyword lists
- No negative keywords
- They don’t make separate ad groups for different keywords
- Tracking is not done well
- The time their Ad shows is not restricted to the ideal times
- Ad extensions are not set up
- Ad text does not match keywords
- Ad text does not match landing page
- Landing page is not made for conversions
- General poor conversion strategy on website
- Location targeting is too wide
- On general Ad for different services
- Campaign not focused on key products or services
- The list goes on for a while here right?
A good place to start from, when setting up a Google adwords campaign is by asking questions like these
- What do I want to achieve from adwords?
- Which products or services will people most likely buy or enquire for?
- How far will customers travel to get to me, or how far will I travel for it to be worth it?
- Who do I not want to click on my Ad?
- When are they most likely to buy / enquire?
- There are many more.
Do people click on Google Ads?
- People click on Google ads. We all know Google make so much money right? Well it almost all comes from people clicking on Adwords. It works.
